The best smart-home device for aging in place is usually the one nobody has to remember to use.

Does it still help when the resident forgets the app, misses a notification, or changes nothing about the normal routine?

Comfort With Technology Is a Design Requirement

If the resident will not use an app, “training” is not always the answer. Choose a system that does not require the app during normal use.

Good technology adapts to the person. It does not demand that the person become the system administrator.
